Dear Alexis,

There's a lady that I want to kiss but should I ask her first or just do it?

TJ

Dear TJ,
For a question that is so short and to the point, you’d think I’d be able to give you a straightforward answer. Alas, not the case…

There are some occasions when you should just kiss someone.  But there are probably more occasions when you shouldn’t. For example, if you are riding the streetcar home in the afternoon and you see someone you think is hot you SHOULD NOT just kiss her. This rule goes for pretty much any perfect stranger. It also goes for acquaintances, co-workers, people at the gym, etc. I would say there is only one time per year when you can actually go up to a stranger and kiss them and that is for the 60 seconds following the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. And even then, it should be closed-mouthed and quick.

When should you just do it? Only when you are absolutely certain she’ll kiss back. If you have any doubt in your mind, if there’s the most remote possibility that she’ll push you away and say “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” then don’t.

Now, this is where it gets quite hard for the Fellas; reading the signals. How are you supposed to know when she’ll throw you off like you’re contagious or when she’ll grab you and kiss you like you’ve never been kissed?

I could give you a list of signals here but I don’t think it will be too helpful because honestly, we women don’t have a handbook either. So, if one woman licks her lips while she’s looking at you, it could be code for “kiss me now!” But another woman could lick her lips while she’s looking at you and it could mean “Man, I wish I had brought my chap stick…”

Here’s the code I’m going to give you TJ and let’s just both hope it works:

·      Don’t just kiss a woman out of the blue.

·      If there’s someone you like, ask her out on some kind of date. It could be anything; dinner, skating, coffee, a movie, a walk in the park. If she says yes, it’s a good sign she could be interested.

·      Go on the date and just be yourself. Get to know her. Ask her about her.

·      See the way she relates to you. Does she touch you often…does she put her hand on your knee, arm, shoulder while she’s talking? These are good signs that she’s interested.

·      You could even be so bold as to ask her something cheeky like “If a guy wanted to kiss you, would you rather he asked first or just did it?” But, only ask a question like this if it feels natural, DON’T FORCE IT or it could come out creepy.

·      By now, you’ll have a sense of how you feel about each other. If you are totally sure she’s into it, then go for it. If you have any doubt, then either wait or ask.

Whatever happens with this woman, your spidey senses should get better with practice. Go on a few dates and see how good you are at reading the vibes of your dates. Don’t be too upset if somebody doesn’t want to kiss you back. That happens to everybody.

No matter what happens, just keep out there and one day you will find your princess!

Good Luck!

AB
